Mahnaz Afkhami, one of the most active and influential contributors to this agenda since the 1975 Mexico Conference, spoke at The Gender and Development Chapter of the 1818 Society about the state of international conventions on women.

On July 16, Afkhami spoke at the launch event for the book Women and Girls Rising: Progress and Resistance Around the World at the Embassy of New Zealand in Washington, DC. The launch was hosted by the Roosevelt Institute and Center for Health and Gender Equity (CHANGE). The book was developed out of the Women and Girls Rising Conference: Historical Reflections and Future Prospects hosted by the Roosevelt Institute at the September 11-12, 2014.

On September 11, Mahnaz Afkhami spoke at the Women and Girls Rising: Historical Reflections & Future Prospects Conference on the panel "How Global Conferences Have Mattered to Realizing Women's Human Rights" The conference was organized around conversations between at least two speakers, pairing activists with scholars, women and men of the Global South with those of the North, and pioneers of the past with their activist counterparts today. Women and Girls Rising intends to ground today’s policy solutions in the history of visionaries who first recognized that women’s rights are fundamental human rights, and human rights are the right of every woman.
On March 31, Women's Foreign Policy Group's "Beyond the Headlines" series featured Mahnaz Afkhami speaking on the highlights of the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women where representatives of UN member states, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited NGOs met at UN headquarters in New York. This year’s discussion focused on the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls.
