On March 31, Mahnaz Afkhami spoke on the highlights of the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women where representatives of UN member states, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited NGOs met at UN headquarters in New York. This year’s discussion focused on the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls. Afkhami’s organization Women’s Learning Partnership, an international NGO with ECOSOC Special Consultative Status, holds regular consultations as well as side events during the annual meeting of CSW.

Women’s Foreign Policy Group’s “Beyond the Headlines” series features prominent officials and journalists take its members and guests beyond the headlines and provide context for the key issues shaping foreign policy today. The series was launched in 2010 with a luncheon featuring US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke.
